Fashion Mis-statement
While I was driving to work this morning I saw a man wearing knee high socks with sandals. I haven't seen a man in socks and sandals since I graduated from year 12 Physics. Are they coming back in? Did they ever really go out? Were they ever in to begin with?

I hate to tell you, but I see this ALL the time in Florida -- it's a very "in" thing with seniors.
is there a government resettlement strategy in place? do all former maths/science teachers need to retire in Florida?
you mean, socks and sandals go hand in hand with age - not with profession? should I be worried that socks and sandals are just around the corner for me????
Here in Utah it seems to be a common occurrence, with the offenders being (mostly) male university students. It doesn't seem to be an age thing; I actually think it's a climate thing. Some days you just want to wear sandals because it's been snowing for 4 months with no end in sight, and it's barely warm enough to not need snow boots, but too cold to wear flip-flops, so they opt for the fashion faux-pas in order to wear the sandals. Heinous, indeed. Unless the socks in question are toe-socks, then it's all ok.
While eating at one of the nicer dining establishments here (ok, fine it was McDonald's), my wife and I saw an older man sitting there in powder blue pants that ended halfway down his calf. The hem of the pants was followed by a couple inches of exposed skin the black socks and sandals.
We should probably excuse it since he was certainly over 90 years old, but I don't think I can.
